ØMeaning, Evolution, Scope and Language of Project Management

Industries in infrastructure, manufacturing, software as well as services believe in executing their plans in the form of projects.  Project Management has now become a very specialized activity and the performance of managers of all hues is measured by the success rate of project completion.  Unfortunately, engineers and managers are not really equipped with the required knowledge that would assist them in closing the allotted projects on time within budgeted cost.  Session one would aim at creating the awareness with respect to the importance, evolution, usage and the terminology used in project management.

ØDeveloping Project Network Diagram

Participants shall be provided inputs that would permit them to use one of the most versatile project networks making tools called PERT – Project Evaluation and Review Technique.  The skills shall be practiced through use of a case study which will equip them to identify the tasks, their predecessors, obtain estimates of task times, plot and optimize the network including determination of project time and critical tasks and paths.

ØEstimating Resource Requirements

Projects require an amalgam of resources that include specialists, managers, people, variety of equipments (both owned and hired) besides a wide range of materials and most importantly – money.  Estimating how much of what is needed when so that these can be effectively utilized shall be the focus of this session.  Cases where the same source is required at different places simultaneously will also be dealt with.

ØMonitoring and Controlling Projects

Projects have an uncanny habit of becoming costlier, unwieldy and notoriously late.  The greatest challenge for the Project Manager is to track the project and ensure its timely completion.  The sessions will expose participants to tools available for effective monitoring and learning to use them.  Examples of successful projects shall be discussed to illustrate these tools like ‘S’ Curves and Bell Curves.
